Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Lisa Monaco met today with Turkish Foreign Minister Feridun Sinirlioglu on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss U.S.-Turkish counterterrorism cooperation.  During the meeting, Ms. Monaco and Foreign Minister Sinirlioglu reviewed the counter-ISIL Coalition’s progress and our ongoing efforts to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIL.  Ms. Monaco thanked the Foreign Minister for Turkey’s increased participation in the Coalition, including its decision to allow U.S. aircraft to fly missions from Incirlik and other Turkish airbases.  They also addressed the need to continue to push for a negotiated political settlement in Syria and discussed expanding U.S.-Turkish cooperation on border security and countering the flow of foreign fighters.
