The Vice President met today with President Jimmy Morales before his inauguration to congratulate him on his assumption of the presidency of Guatemala. The two leaders discussed a range of important issues in the bilateral relationship, including cooperation in the areas of security, energy, economic development, and migration.  They also agreed on the important contributions of the International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala, known as CICIG, and pledged to work together to advance reforms related to good governance and greater transparency.  The Vice President and President Morales agreed that strong ties between the United States and Guatemala were vital to both countries and the hemisphere as whole and pledged their commitment to deepen the bilateral relationship.
