National Security Advisor Susan E. Rice met with Nigeria’s National Security Advisor, Babagana Monguno, at the White House today to discuss opportunities to expand cooperation between the United States and Nigeria.  Ambassador Rice welcomed the progress that Nigeria and its regional partners have made in the fight against Boko Haram, now known as ISIL’s West Africa Province. She encouraged Nigeria to maintain focus on defeating the group militarily while establishing good governance and providing basic services in liberated areas. They also discussed the urgent need for international collaboration to support the Government of Nigeria’s response to the humanitarian emergency in northeast Nigeria. Additionally, they exchanged views on the ongoing effort to engage in dialogue with Niger Delta militants and seek an immediate and peaceful resolution to the conflict.  Ambassador Rice and General Monguno reaffirmed the deep friendship between the United States and Nigeria and committed to strengthening the relationship.
