Deputy National Security Advisor Benjamin J. Rhodes met on May 17 at the White House with Vietnamese-American civil society leaders and other non-government leaders working on human rights, governance reform, and rule of law in Vietnam to discuss the President’s trip to Vietnam.  He was joined by senior National Security Council and Department of State officials.  Participants offered views and ideas on human rights, governance reform, and legal reform to inform preparation of the President’s May 22-25 trip to Vietnam.  The United States will continue to raise our support for universal values, including inclusive governance, strong civil societies, fair labor practices, and respect for human rights in countries around the world.‎
